At the heart of the proposed master plan lies a 77-kilometre ring road, which is described as the critical lifeline of the entire development project. By encircling the vast perimeter of the lake, the ring road is expected to unlock previously inaccessible vistas and provide the necessary connectivity for secondary tourism nodes.
Construction for the first phase of this ambitious roadway has already commenced, specifically targeting the stretch from Koti Colony to the iconic Dobra-Chanti suspension bridge. Designed with widths ranging between 14 and 21 metres, the road will feature dedicated footpaths and cycling tracks, encouraging slow tourism and eco-friendly exploration. Furthermore, scenic viewpoints are being integrated at wider points of the road to allow travellers to safely stop and immerse themselves in the panoramic beauty of the Bhagirathi valley.
In a bid to attract high-end international travellers and ensure seamless accessibility, the plan incorporates advanced multi-modal transport options. It has been confirmed that two strategically located helipads will be constructed along the new ring road. These facilities are intended to slash travel times from major transit hubs like Dehradun and Rishikesh, positioning Tehri as a luxury getaway accessible within minutes of landing in the state.
Perhaps most exciting is the inclusion of a seaplane project, which is being fast-tracked under the Tehri Lake Development Department’s action plan.
